Italy lockdown 20216/11/2023 My heart has hurt for so many business owners during this time! We are back in orange now as of Monday, April 12th. During red, only food was considered essential which of course was great to have that but also sad to see the road where the market takes place because so many stretches were empty. ![]() The weekly Friday market was also able to continue! The market in our town is very large with fruit, veggie, meat vendors as well as clothes and other miscellaneous sales available. We didn’t realize this at first, as previously when regions had gone red citizens were not supposed to leave their homes at all but this time exercising in the town i.e walking, running, biking was permitted! Phew! With two small girls at home that was a relief to find out. Many businesses had to close during red as they were considered “non-essential” and the big stores had many areas blocked off and it was illegal to buy any products they sold that were not deemed essential by the Italian government. Red is a bit more intense than orange… we still aren’t supposed to leave unless an emergency or necessity of something we cannot find in our town and continued to need a self-declaration form if the police were to stop us. A week later on March 15th, our region moved to red level lockdown and stayed that way for 4 weeks. In orange status, we are not supposed to leave our towns except for emergencies or necessity and we must carry a self-declaration form with us if we are to get stopped by the police. On Monday, March 8th Italy put our region back into orange level lockdown.
